Young Changemakers Reclaim Beauty of Kamrangirchar

Shawdesh desk:

Kamrangirchar, a scenic spot in the capital, was once a haven for nature lovers with its serene environment by the Buriganga River. However, the current scenario paints a different picture. On a recent visit, it became evident that the city corporation’s inefficiencies have left the area plagued by litter, notably plastic waste. Yet, a glimmer of hope shines through the enthusiasm of the youth, who are stepping up to the plate to restore its former glory. This commitment to preserving the area’s natural beauty is a promising sign for a cleaner, greener Kamrangirchar.

Amidst the desolation, there was a glimmer of hope. The youth of the community stepped forward with determination and zeal. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to those who answered the call, even travelling from far and wide to join us in our cause.

Our mission was clear and impactful: to illuminate the problems in our region, to spread awareness about the harmful effects of plastic, and to unite as one force. Meanwhile, our comrades in Cox’s Bazar, Khulna, and Lalmonirhat shared our dedication in their own pursuits. Our vision extends beyond Dhaka, with a shared commitment to protect our homeland’s natural beauty. This effort is driven by our deep understanding that our environment and future generations face grave peril from the excessive use of plastic. This initiative was born from volunteers who recognised the urgency of the situation and chose to take action.

Every first Saturday of the month, we embark on a ‘No Plastic Day’ campaign. It is a day when we encourage everyone to abandon single-use plastic and seek alternatives. By collectively abstaining from plastic for a single day, we strive to chip away at the larger climate crisis. This approach has already attracted the support of hundreds of enthusiastic young individuals, each eager to contribute in their own unique ways across various regions.

The beauty of our mission lies in its simplicity, as we narrate this tale of positive change in Kamrangirchar Thota Ghat and beyond. Our goal is to inspire people to rethink their plastic consumption habits and make environmentally conscious choices. This is not just a local story but a global one, as we work towards a sustainable future for our planet.

With unwavering determination, we believe that every small action counts. In the grand tapestry of environmental conservation, each effort, no matter how modest, plays a pivotal role. It is a story of resilience, community, and a shared commitment to preserving the wonders of our world.
Together, we can turn the tide against plastic pollution and protect our cherished places for generations to come.
